Microsoft and Nokia Will Finally Work Together – Windows Phone as Principal Smartphone Strategy

Windows Phone 7 is turning into something big. After changing names of their Symbian operating system from S^3 to S3 and working with Meego for a while. Nokia has finally decided (the decision was made a decent while ago) to join Microsoft and work on their future smartphones (and who knows may be pads or tablets too), with Windows Phone 7 as their OS.

Now, Windows Phone is not the only thing that was included in this strategic alliance of both giants. They will be working on Bing, Xbox Live and Office, not to mention marketplace.

But you know what, it is rather odd, to actually accept that two of the greatest rival came together without snapping each others gadgets out. I am very sure that around the time when Nokia N900 was about to come in market to become a flagship device for Nokia after N97, Microsoft offered this alliance, but only for Windows Mobile operating system and for some reason, it didn’t work out.

But after quite a while and this ‘while’ has many ‘quites’ in it, Nokia has no hope for improving or even dragging Symbian along the way, as they progress through their new smartphones with latest processors and graphics chip. So, after looking at Android 3.0 aka Honeycomb and after looking at Motorola Xoom’s awesome performance and new smartphones that blew Symbian away, they realized (and that’s just a guess) that if they need to come back in the market, they need to focus on only one thing.

It could be OS or hardware, so they decided ‘hardware’ and Microsoft will be taking care of the OS and software related thingy. How about you watch this video below, where Stephen Elop, CEO Nokia, is announcing the new alliance with a very-very wide grin. It looks kind of suspicious. Anyway, enjoy friends.

Android Market for Web is Live

Finally it’s here and live for everyone to use. Android Market is now open for business. It’s not like it was not before but everyone loves the easiness of purchase things online from PC as well, not just from an Android device, am I right?

Have a look at the picture and then we’ll discuss, how to purchase apps from Android Market website?

Android Market is Now LIve

Android Market Live

The images follow to Android Market website, so you may follow it as well without caring about any redirection. :)

Anyway, How to purchase apps from this new Android Market?

  • Let me first tell you that everything is neatly categorized and you’ll learn that only if you visit the website yourself.
  • You’ve got games and applications, and that is all you’re going to need.
  • Now when you click on some game or application, you’ll be taken to the page where you can have an overview of the game or application, have user reviews for your pleasure, see what’s new and view permissions involved with the app (games or applications).
  • Let’s say, we want to buy Need for Speed Shift for over high-class smartphone with Android.
  • You click on it and you’ll come to all those things that I mentioned above.
  • If you are not signed in, the website will tell you to sign-in before you can make a purchase (if you click on Buy). Don’t worry, you can sign-in with your Google account credentials.
  • The only problem is, you need to have an android smartphone linked to that particular google email account and I am pretty sure, if you are going to buy an app then you would have already linked your smartphone.
  • You have to access Android Market with an Android smartphone and they will be linked, so next time you’ll be able to purchase an app right from this web client and send it to your smartphone.
  • Purchasing is just as before. You have the option to pay via Credit cards, etc. We just have the option to view applications and games more clearly then before. Because, no matter what they say, 4.3-inch screen is still nowhere as close as to 40-inch, right?

Have fun using Android Market web client fellas! Ciao!

Clover : Sunbook | Might be the first Sunlight Reading Netbook| Competing with Kindle

Clover is trying to make a comeback in the Netbook market with their latest Sunbook. It is available right away, but we could only see it in CES 2011.

The only marketing feature that this Netbook has to offer is, readability under direct sunlight.

It is trying to compete with Kindle and other ebook readers and with a colored display, iPad and tablets as well. It is however, far behind many tablets that were shown in CES 2011.

So, let’s look at the specifications and guess its performance:

Clover Sunbook

Clover Sunbook

Processor                     Intel Atom N450 1.66 GHz

Operating System           Windows 7 Starter

Memory                        1GB DDR2

Hard Drive                     250GB

Display Size                   10.1″

Resolution                     1024x600xRGB

Brightness                     165 nits typ (dark room)

235 nits (room lighting)

>1000 nits  (outside, sunlight)

Backlight                       White LEDs

Media Card Reader          SDHC, SD, MMC

USB Ports                      3

LAN                              Ethernet and Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n

Weight                          2.91 lbs.

Webcam                        0.3 MP

Conclusion

So, after looking at the specifications, you might have already guessed the performance. Apart from using it seamlessly in light and dark environments, it is pretty much like any other Netbook in the market. Frankly, it doesn’t surprises me and I cannot call it a great wonder for CES 2011, because 2011 is going to be great for electronics and Clover Sunbook, just doesn’t fit in the position.

As for price, you can buy it from Clover’s website for only (which is a little expensive regarding the performance) $795 or Rs.36188/-

Paypal and Reserve Bank of India (RBI) New Rules Starting March 1st 2011

It’s has become a little old news but is still worth mentioning. Paypal has been dealing with some security and policy issues with India and we heard quite a while ago that depositing money from Paypal to a bank in India was no longer possible. That little issue got fixed somehow and we were all happy when we had that email from Paypal regarding all holds are lifted for depositing your money.

I think that this new policy or rule tracks way back from then, they might have agreed on something like that. Starting from fiscal month of 2011, they would take new rules into effect regarding money transactions via Paypal.

New rules are very strict and very disappointing.

  • You will no longer be able to accumulate money in your Paypal account. You have to deposit or request it in your bank or credit card as soon as you see some money delivered in your Paypal account.
  • You will no be able to hold a transaction for export goods greater than $500.

Here’s a screenshot of the email we, all Paypal account holders, got.
