Flickr for Windows 7 and Windows Phone 7

Flickr has improved the application for a pleasant experience on Windows 7 and Windows Phone 7. The app for Windows Phone 7 will be able available for download on 31st Jan 2011.

Flickr has always been very keen to provide privacy for our lovely pictures, however, there are still some ways to fetch images from Flickr without violating terms and conditions.

In any case, it would be great to work with an app/software that’s especially for Flickr management. Like Picasa, Flickr should also allow some interesting features, like posting images to blog, share with multiple friends via email or social networking sites. You know, possibilities are endless and it’s just a matter of time before you see a review right on this blog.

So, stay tuned friends and don’t forget to watch the video below regarding Flickr app for Windows Phone 7 and Windows 7 with some amazing features or that’s how it is advertized anyway!

How to fix Blue Screen Error in Dell Inspiron 15R?

What is it?

As you probably know that blue screen error happens for various reasons and many of them are unknown to normal users who don’t get too deep in this computer thing.

If you just open your computer and work for few hours (minutes) regarding typing, managing data sheets, content management or even just enjoy your time on the web, there is no way you’d come across the reasons behind a blue-screen error.

The screen would just turn blue, show you that ‘the system has experienced some problems and needs to shut down’ and would dump some garbage data, which would just pass over your head leaving you utterly annoyed and confused as to what just happened.

Hard Disk May Also Cause Blue-Screen Error

Right now, I’ll be talking about blue-screen error that is caused by a new hard-disk in new laptops and for this article; I’ll be specific with Dell Inspiron 15r N5010 because I have recently fixed blue-screen error that was being caused by Western Digital hard disk in this laptop.

Now, the big question is, how to fix a blue screen error without calling a technician? It’s super easy, just follow the link.

Direct X 12 – Who’s going to win this time – Nvidia or AMD?

Can Crysis 3 be First DX 12.0 Game?

We are now really close to end 2010 and it has been an amazing year for gadget world.

There has been a really close competition between AMD’s and Nvidia’s graphics card all this year, and for the first time ever, they are actually competing with the same DirectX version (DirectX 10.1 vs. 10.0 went for pretty long period) and this is where the question arises, ‘how long is this going to keep up?’

Sooner or later DirectX 12 will come knocking on our door with some more amazing 3D realism and closeness to real world graphics.

I was thinking about Crysis 3 when this particular subject came into my mind, it would be just great to play Crysis 3 with DirectX 12.0.

Google Official Chrome Extensions

Google Chrome Extensions
I have nowfinished checking these extensions from Google for Chrome to expand theflexibility and reach of ‘world’s fastest web browser’ (it’s just a claim; noone totally believes it anyway).
So, these threeextensions do make working on the web easier than before. But, can it stillmatch other web browsers in this competition?

Mozilla Firefoxused to have several add-ons to make it user friendly as much as possible. However, with the beta release, which is definitely faster than Firefox 3.X, thelimitation of compatibility has become an issue. But developers are working onthat one and with some adjustments and tweaks in their applications new hordeof add-ons would be ready to go and we’ll be swimming in user-friendly add-onsonce more.
InternetExplorer has quite a few add-ons but they are also very helpful and to mysurprise, old add-ons work with the new beta release. They do crash some times, but of course, developers are also aware of this fact and they will be improvedpretty soon too.
Now, as forChrome, I don’t use this browser for anything but checking my emails only. NewInternet Explorer beta and Firefox beta is more than enough for me. Even then,if I am stuck with only Chrome then these three extensions might come out ashandy tools when I have to force myself to work with Chrome and Chrome only.
Calendarextension lets you easily sync and manage your dates and appointments, not tomention reminders, quickly from the browser itself, without the need of openingGoogle Calendar via address bar.
Docs extensionis pretty nice too. Clipping a webpage and editing it in Google Docs has becomemuch easier. Again, no need to open Google Docs. Just click this extension andsome handy options will pop-up and you can work with your document as you like.Uploading is also available from this extension.
YouTubeextension lets you enjoy and upload favorite videos (or new ones obviously)easily and things have become rather enjoyable with this extension.
To sum up,working with Chrome with these extensions has become a lot better than before. But keep in mind, all of these extensions are worth nothing if you have nothingto do with calendar and docs, I can’t say the same for YouTube though.
With that NewTrailers section of YouTubepeople are surging to visit YouTube. Therefore, the YouTube extension might notbe a worthless extension. Then again, for advance options, we still have toopen the webpage and then, the whole ‘working with extensions’ thing fallsapart, doesn’t it?
Anyway, workyour way around these three musketeers and you’ll know if they are worthsomething or not.

Techsmith Snagit Review

I hope you already know Snagit if you run Windowsoperating system and work around capturing your screen more than often. Youmight have seen many Screen Capturing softwares that do wonders and one of themis Snagit.
It has its own benefits over others and now it isavailable for Mac as well. Though, I should tell you that there are still somelimitations for Mac users, but they will be overcome as the developers optimizethis software for Mac even further.

Limitations for Mac Users
This software is still just testing its performance onMac interface and developers are depending on our feedback for making itbetter so that it can actually become a tough contender for other screencapturing softwares for Mac.
·        Mac users can not record video screen casts.
·        Users will not be able to create custom captureprofiles.
Both of these limitations can be great or lamedepending on how you use your screen capturing software.
If you work around video editing a lot and intend tomake elaborate presentations by embedding real footage then this limitationwill certainly turn you off.
Also, if you want to create your own capture profilesthat you use over and over again, then this limitation will also drive you awayfrom this software.
Nevertheless, the software is full featured if you owna Windows based system, i.e. desktop computer or laptop running XP, Vista orSeven. So, you should not worry about those limitations and feel free to usethis software the way you want.
As for price point of view, this software can be purchasedsubtracting $49.95 from your pocket. However, there is one relief. If youpurchased this software thinking that you own a Windows based system and stillwant to try it on a Mac based system, then you don’t need to make additionalpurchase. That one license key would be enough to let you try this piece onyour Mac system.
It is certainly an amazing piece of screen capturingsoftware and does the job appreciably. However, you do need to think about yourneeds before you head on to Techsmith website and purchase Snagit. Just Captureit, Enhance it and Share it. That’s what the tagline of Snagit claims and Itotally agree with it.
One more thing, cause I am about to end this post, this software is available with a 30-day trial period like many other softwares. So, leave any worries or tensions that are holding you back. Give it a try andsee if it’s up to your tasks or not.

How to edit Send To Option in Windows 7 (or any version)?

[ad#728x90-banner-wide]
Let’s see how to quickly change Send To option in Windows 7 or any version of Windows OS.
With default Sendto menu, you get these options:

Default Send To Options Windows 7

Default Send To Options Windows 7

Even if your options are different from mine (I am sure they are), you have to follow the same steps to edit Send To option and create your own Send To folders that you use frequently.

Hit Windows key or Start and type in the search box, “shell:sendto” (without quotes) and hit enter. You’ll see a folder where all of your Send To options are accumulated. Now all you have to do is delete those that are just increasing ‘Send To’ program list and paste those folders’s shortcuts that you use frequently.

Send To Options Changed

Send To Options Changed

You can also use this trick to quickly add programs that you use most to edit your files. For example: If you edit pictures a lot, you can go to your preferred program and copy the ‘.exe’ file and paste the shortcut in this ‘Send To’ folder.

Now you can right click your pictures and send them to ‘Photoshop’ or any other preferred program to edit. Remember to add only compatible programs.

I am well aware that we have ‘Open With’ menu to open our files with compatible programs. But the list of compatible programs for a file format is too long than you’ll find yourself scrolling for that program. That’s why, this Send To ‘Program’ thing will help you with the programs you use most.

Locate this folder directly by pasting this link in your Windows Explorer bar: C:\Users\{YourUsername}\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\SendTo.

Both of them do the same thing, but it comes in handy when “shell:sendto” isn’t working for some reason.

Have a look at how my options changed when I added ‘Paint.exe’ shortcut in “Send To” folder.

Send To Option Changed : Paint Added

Send To Option Changed : Paint Added

I am writing ‘paste shortcut’ again and again inspite of ‘pasting’ whole ‘.exe’ file because that will save you a significant amount of disk space. A shortcut typically acquires only 1Kb of disk space while your whole ‘.exe’ will be definitely larger than that and as a matter of fact, both methods work just fine.

Word of Advice: If you are working on other Windows OS than 7, then try locating this “Send to” folder directly by going through above address. If you can’t paste the address in address bar of Windows Explorer. Then you need to ‘Show Hidden Folders’ in Tools>Options menu.

I hope this trick helped you a bit.

Dissapointed with Internet Explorer 9 Beta!

[ad#468x60-banner]
Oh yeah! I know very well that you won’t worry about what I think about it but I am going to tell it anyway. First of all, when I heard that Internet Explorer 9 Beta (IE 9 beta) is finally out, I went straight to Google and downloaded the IE 9 beta from Microsoft’s Test Drive site and guess what! I was surprised to see the download finish so quickly.

Internet Explorer 9 Beta

Internet Explorer 9 Beta

Anyway, I wasn’t surprised when I clicked on the thing and it popped and started downloading necessary stuff from the server. That’s how Google Chrome installs itself. So, I waited patiently and what a bummer, it asked me for a ‘restart’. I must tell you that while I was installing it, I was doing a very hefty and important work and till 2 hours I could not restart it for the same.

So I finished my work and after 2 hours, I gave my system a restart. My system booted and I could see the Windows 7 sparkling and then… out came the ugliest screen that has been tormenting us Windows users for past several years, ‘The infamous Blue-Screen’. I was shocked because I didn’t want to restore my computer completely and nor did I want to lose any new software that I installed in these days as they were too important to lose.

I restarted it again and faced the same error. The only thing that I did was installing IE 9 beta and now I was facing this blue-screen error. However, I calmed myself and fixed the problem by finally restoring my system to an earlier point when I had no option to fix this problem. I was glad and gloomy at the same time because only few of my softwares were disappeared, but I could no longer install IE 9 beta, just because I was too afraid to do it again.

However, I asked one of my friends to do that on his desktop PC with both Windows 7 32-bit and 64-bit operating system. He did it and then told me about it and I became more disappointed than I already was.

Let me point them out for you:

1. It’s not faster than Chrome and just a slight bit faster than Firefox 4 beta 6.

2. Firefox 4 beta 6 installed without a problem and without a restart of course and that’s just plain stupid for an internet browser. It asks for a restart means, it will change some sensitive information on your system and that requires restarting. Anyway, on this matter, we can rest assured that Microsoft will never something unhealthy for our system. However, I can’t justify the same for my dear laptop.

3. The interface is pretty clean and straightforward (thumbs up for this), but there is no drag and drop of text still.

4. Chrome, Firefox and Opera support do feature this drag and drop of text feature (photos as well), then why on earth IE 9 beta doesn’t? It is still in beta phase, is that it?

5. On some browser tests, Acid test, HTML 5 test, etc. IE 9 beta did perform pretty well, but it only excelled its previous versions and that’s why I would not be switching from my current default browser, i.e. Firefox 4 beta 6.

Memory Usage of Chrome, Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox

Memory Usage of Chrome, Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox

7. To me, performance and ease of access matters the most. A browser doesn’t need to be pretty but it must deliver what it promises and that’s a great experience while browsing the web.

8. IE 9 beta performs quicker in Windows 7 32-bit in comparison to 64-bit. I don’t know why, but it is really the case.

9. One more thing, I have seen that when I start Chrome, it loads up pretty fast but it also runs many processes in the background. Have a look at this image.

As you can see, with just one chrome, the processes running in the background are 5 in number and together, they are costing me around 66MB of Memory usage. IE 9 beta too starts few processes in the background but thankfully, they use lesser memory than Chrome (thumbs up again). Right now, as you can see, IE 8 is not running any background processes and that one IE 8 process, is using only 20 MB (approx.) of my memory.

10. At last, I don’t know if I am ready for IE 9 beta or not. But I will try it out when the final build arrives for download.

These were just my opinion or better to say, my friend’s opinion. I am not going to install IE 9 beta, until I hear the announcement of complete version from Microsoft. Till then, I would contact my friend occasionally and use his system to get things rolling with IE 9 beta.

Windows Live Writer 2011

[ad#300x250-box]

I’ve finally updated my Live Writer’s version to 2011 but I don’t see many changes as to what I wrote in my post about windows live writer beta. The start screen has changed than before but the start-up time is just about the same.

Looks like I will have to work on it more to gain the tweaks and performance benefits.

The interface is just as simple as before and the application is still in beta phase. But it definitely seems that Microsoft is gong to release the final version soon.

Download Windows Live Essentials latest.

Microsoft Windows Live Writer Beta Complete Review

[ad#box]

Now is the time I’ve been waiting for. Finally Microsoft has released download links for Windows Live Essentials Beta for us. There are two download options. If you are already familiar with all the programs that Windows Live Essentials offers then you might want to go for first download option that lets you download everything inside Windows Essentials Beta. Other option lets you choose what you want to download, like Windows live writer beta, Windows Live messenger, photo and movie maker, etc.

I like the later one obviously and I think many of us would as well. I just wanted to download Windows Live Writer in all of them. Because I feel that Windows live Writer is great for blogging offline. It is really easily and you can preview your post without the need of an internet connection, however, you must have an internet access if you want to connect your Windows Live Writer to your blogging account and see a direct preview of your post in your theme (it downloads the theme for preview purpose).

I know that there are now multiple posts regarding review of Windows Live Essentials and its entire programs, but every review is unique and if you are looking for some more reference on windows live writer, then you must read this post.

1. First of all, downloading of windows live writer only is really quick but you must have a 256 kbps connection or it might take some time. But nothing to worry about, you can grab a cup of tea or coffee. Then, as usual, when the downloading and installing has been finished, the program will ask you to configure your blogging account for the first time.

You may do it right away or you may skip it and use the program and configure your blogging account later on.

2. Interface: The interface of Windows Live Writer is much simpler than before. Here is a screen-shot for better look.

clip_image002

As you can see, the interface looks less cluttered than before because they have removed the sidebar and reset its options in the main menu.

Starting from top: a) Now you have ribbon feature just as MS Office’s applications.

The ribbon might be taking some space but it’s helpful at the same time. It includes save, undo and redo by default, and (when you click the downward arrow) new post, open, publish, print, print preview, show below the ribbon and minimize the ribbon options (or buttons).

I find all of these options helpful and ready to work if we are working under another tab and we want to quickly publish our post. Publish button on the ribbon can become very handy and same goes for ‘open’ command, since I don’t use print and print preview options a lot (as I don’t print my posts), I don’t feel the need to put them in the ribbon.

clip_image004

b) In main menu, you will only find three options, i.e. ‘Home’, ‘Insert’ and ‘Blog Account’.

Home option has all the necessary tools that we need to format our post as we please. Like paste, cut, copy, managing blog account, adding new blog account, font, font size, B, I, U, subscript, superscript, strike through, bullets, numbering, quoting, text colour, highlight colour, hyperlink, adding picture and video, spell check, word count and select all.

Do you get my point now? All the options that are handy and just like MS word are present in Windows Live Writer beta.

Insert Option has adding picture, video, photo album, map, post tags, emoticon, Add plug in and plug in options.

clip_image006

Adding plug-in in Windows live writer was always a great feature. It lets me optimize my Writer’s experience.

Have a look at this screen shot, showing options under ‘Blog Account’ tab.

clip_image008

So basically, that’s all you get in the first look and that’s what on your plate and even for a new guy (for windows live writer), familiarizing and working on this program won’t be difficult.

However, there are some things that can be considered as downside for some bloggers and may be, a good thing for others.

As I said that windows live writer looks less cluttered than before because of the lack of sidebar. You can pop it out, when you click ‘view all’, at the right extreme corner of the main window (next to ‘set publish date’ option). Here’s what you get when you click on ‘view all’.

clip_image010

You can select categories, add tags, determine publish date (all of these are available without clicking on ‘view all’), turn on and off comments, allow or deny pings (you can provide your own web address of website where you want to ping your updates) and select Authors (if you have created them within your WordPress control panel).

So, if we conclude this one addition of ‘view more’, it doesn’t take much of our time, because many of us won’t need it. Think about this, most of us just create a post, select a category (or many), and add tags and if they don’t want to publish right away then determine a publishing date. So we don’t even need to click on ‘view all’, so not only now our workspace is wider than before, but also we won’t have to worry about clicking on ‘view all’, because we won’t even need it.

3. Posting: Nothing new, I must say. It’s basically same as before. However, now we don’t need image editing software anymore, because now we can add images with nice effects and border from this program quickly. We can upload a photo from our computer, from web, create a photo album and even add an online album.

Have a look at all the options we now have to edit our image right away.

clip_image012

As before, when you want to add a video, you can paste your link from YouTube and if you want to upload a video from your own computer then Windows Live Writer will upload the file to YouTube’s server and then add the link to your post. So it’d be better to create an account on YouTube if you don’t have already.

So I guess that’s pretty much all that I can tell you about it. Program is nice and less cluttered, all the necessary options are available and I’ve experienced no crashes on Windows 7 until now. I’ll update this post if I do come across something like that and possibly, will be to tell you the reason. Till then, enjoy blogging from this program.

Xilisoft iPad Magic Review – Software

[ad#300x250-box]

iPad Magic

It's all you need!

I guess that you do like the multimedia side of Apple’s new geeky device. Well, who doesn’t? Anyways, I would like to review one of the Xilisoft’s latest software products, i.e. Xilisoft iPad Magic.

Though I wouldn’t count on Apple iPad’s audio capabilities, (however, it is admirable as well as dependable), I would definitely be delighted to express you that the video capabilities of iPad are excellent. You can’t deny the facts here, can you?

Its 9.7-inch (diagonal) LED-backlit glossy widescreen Multi-Touch display with IPS technology.

So, let’s move on to our review of Xilisoft’s iPad Magic Software.

This software is a new comer in the series of all those softwares which are emerging like soap bubbles to grab a fair share of people who are looking for the applications regarding iPad. Video and Audio conversion softwares are in the same league. But tell you what folks, you shouldn’t take it lightly when it comes to convert video and audio for such a high end and immersive device.

I’ll point out some major features that iPad Magic has to offer. After that, you’re the one to decide whether Xilisoft’s iPad Magic stands a chance in your ‘group of applications for iPad’ or not.

Here we go:

Interface

Xilisoft iPad Magic - Interface

Xilisoft iPad Magic - Interface

Isn’t this interface too simple and unattractive? Huh! Is it? Well, to be perfectly honest, I did think so! But then I thought to myself, would I prefer a fancy looking, heavily loaded interface? If I am in a hurry, then I don’t think so that’s a good idea.

I don’t want to jumble across several menus and buttons and options. Simplicity yet Elegance are what I need! Because I might not be working every time but I sure don’t wanna change the interface now and then. Hence the winner would be, ‘Simple yet Elegant’ looking interface.

Now lemme elaborate the interface.

  1. The topmost bar shows you the status of your software. Right now (as I am writing this review), mine is unregistered version. You might be feeling a suspicion and curiosity rising inside you, regarding, ‘Why did I not buy this software myself?’

Well, there is a quite lame answer to that curiosity of yours, which I would like to tell you after we finish this review. So hang on till then.

  2. Beneath it, we find the evergreen menu bar (I mean, it usually sits there in nearly every software).

You get File, Edit, Actions, Tools and Help choices there. That’s right. No messed up features or bumbling in settings or clicking throughout the menu items. ‘It’s plain and simple’. Boy, do I like that line or what!

Here’s the screenshot of what you will find under these menu items.

These are the default menu items and they won’t change to some other options when you select either an audio file or video. So you can get a pretty good idea from the images above of what you would be working with.

  3. However, I have pointed out the features and options that will change once you click them one by one (very first image).
  4. Remember that ‘little preview window’, I must say that it packs surprises with it.
Xilisoft iPad Magic - Preview Panel

Xilisoft iPad Magic - Preview Panel

  5. It looks like our little preview window wasn’t that ‘little’ at all. Since you’ve seen the picture, I must not explain the same things.

Now that we are familiar with the interface or ‘simple yet elegant’ workspace. I would like to add my views on how well this software works and how many formats it supports. After all, that’s the real information you were looking for, right?

Xilisoft’s Ipad Magic is a combination of iPad manager, iPad transfer and iPad converter and I must say that it is a very nice blend of three softwares. Now we’ll be able to manage, transfer and converter our data (video and audio) with the help of just one software. I was a bit worried about the start though, I mean iTunes does the same things, doesn’t it?

But when you come down to it, iTunes lacks some features and that can’t be ignored if we want a fully loaded application for our lovely device. iTunes doesn’t convert every format of my videos; it also doesn’t support every audio format. That’s why I am not a fan of iTunes. As a matter of fact, I wanted to ditch it as soon as I tried this software.

It supports 3GP, 3G2, ASF, AVI, DV, DIF, VOB, FLV, M2TS, MTS, M4V, SWF, MKV, DVR-MS, MJPG, CDA, MJPEG, MOD, MPG, MPEG, MPA, DAT, TS, MPV, NSV, MOV, QT, H261, H264, RM, RMVB, WMV, ASF, XWMV for video files and AAC, AIF, AIFF, AC3, APE, CUE, AU, FLAC, MPA, MP2, MP3, OGG, RA, WAV, WMA, CDA, M4A, MP4 for audio files. So, now I can convert nearly every format of video and audio that I have.

I really liked that we can connect all supported devices, iPad (all versions), iPod (all versions) and iPhone (all versions), and transfer the files simultaneously. I really liked the quality of videos after I converted them; after all, it depends on the settings you choose.

You can see ‘Profiles for Format Conversion:’ feature (in the image above). You can select preset profiles or you can click on settings and change the values to get the best quality conversion possible. However, I must tell you that ‘hit and trial’ method is the best method. Of course you have iPad just like others, but do you have the same amount of data and all? I highly doubt it! And that’s why you need to figure out your best values. You’ve got to do this once only. After that, you can apply the same setting with other videos as well.

It’s your iPad, remember? You CAN play with it and test with it!

One last point, if you do like iTunes that much (unlike me) then you should be pleased to know that Xilisoft’s iPad Magic supports iTunes version 9.1 or above. Hence, you can manage your files back and forth, means from iPad Magic to iTunes and vice versa. Isn’t that great? Though, it doesn’t make much of a difference to me.

System Requirements – No high-fi system is required. I guess that if you have the guts to buy one of the most impressive devices from Apple, then you must already have a system capable enough to convert the videos for you. But even if you don’t, you can always get your friend’s, can’t you?

In any case, here is what you must have in your system –

OS – Microsoft® Windows XP (SP2 or later), Windows Vista, Windows 7

Processor – 1GHz Intel/AMD processor or above

RAM – 256MB RAM (512MB or above recommended)

Free Hard Disk – 50MB space for installation

Graphics Card – Super VGA (800×600) resolution, 16-bit graphics card or higher

Others – iTunes 9.1 or above, DVD-ROM drive
