Motorola Xoom 4G LTE Upgrade in June 2011

Droid Life blog has reported an image regarding LTE upgrade for Xoom tablet. As the document informs, LTE 4G upgrade will take place approximately 90-days from the date of Xoom’s launch and that would be around June 2011.

The document reports several things to know and awareness points. Here’s a quick point to point discussion:

  • The upgrade will be free of cost.
  • Upgrading will be done for both hardware and software.
  • Consumers will have to ship the device back to Motorola for upgrade.
  • The upgrade process will take approximately 6 days (or more depending on the traffic of Xoom tablets reaching Motorola’s workshops).
  • Consumers should backup their personal data before shipping the tablet.
  • Consumers must delete any personal data from the tablet in order to ensure no data leak (this one is from my side).
  • Motorola will not be responsible for any data leak.
  • The upgrade will be available for 6 months. After that, Motorola may or may not charge for the upgrade.
  • For more information, consumers may visit: http://www.verizonwireless.com/Xoom4GLTEUpgrade

As far as the information is considered, it doesn’t feel fake and unreliable. However, information can be cross checked by following Verizon Wireless link above.

Microsoft Working on Windows Phone 7 Update Problem

Microsoft assures that the update will be online as soon as the fix is ready (nothing to wonder about this). It was reported that Samsung handsets were having problem when installing Windows Phone 7’s very first update.

Samsung Windows Phone 7 update failed

The update was pulled off and issues are being fixed as soon as possible. To save their prestige and dependability of the update, Microsoft announced that one of the reasons for the failure was ‘low disk space’.

The update usually backups all the data and if you don’t have enough disk space in your system then the update will fail. Another possible reason they came up with was ‘poor internet connectivity’. This one is hard to believe because who on earth would update his Phone (an ultra-high-end at that) on a dial-up connection. I would never do that, that’s for sure.

In any case, after making such statements, Microsoft was able to save its (their) skin for launching a poorly coded update, which eventually failed to install.

Now, you would not get an update notification, however, even if you do, don’t install it just yet. The old one will be available with few other bug fixes pretty soon and the final update with ‘copy and paste’ feature will be able in few weeks after that.

Till then stay focused and keep yourself informed. Ciao.

Sony Ericson Xperia Play with Multiplayer and 50 Gaming Titles

Oh dear! News about awesome gadgets are pouring every second from MWC 2011. The long awaited Sony Xperia Play is finally being touched by many gadget geeks and tech enthusiasts. There are different views and opinions about Xperia Play and it’s dependability as a gaming console and in the end, it was concluded that future gaming titles will settle this question, ‘Will Xperia Play really be better than Sony PSP?’

So, without a doubt Sony Ericson announced/boasted about multiplayer games for Play and 50 titles on top of that. These gaming titles are not from some dumb, sitting on the couch all the time type of fella, these include some big guys.

In future many more would join, but for now, you should suffice your hunger of knowledge with these names:

  • EA Sports and EA
  • Activision
  • Gameloft
  • Unity Technologies
  • etc.

OK, if that does not appeal you because the list is too small!!, then here is the list for upcoming titles:

  • Assassins Creed
  • First multi-player version of FIFA 10 for mobile.
  • Need for Speed Shift
  • Asphalt
  • Sims 3
  • Guitar Hero
  • etc.

If that list does not appeal you as well, then hang on till I get my hands on those 50 titles that Sony Ericsson has promised. Till then stay healthy, because once you get this Play playing with your head, you won’t be able to get up from your couch.

Anyway there are some videos that you might want to watch.

Official Google Translate App for iPhone Released

Google Translate App is finally available for iPhone and it supports all models of iPhone and it is also compatible with iPod touch, and iPad.

Now, for those who don’t know what Google Translate is, I would like to clear up a few points:

  • Google Translate can translate any text in more than 50 languages.
  • Recently added feature was speak-out-loud. Where, you can just type your own language and have it translate to a particular one (like Japanese, Russian, etc.) and have it spoken by the system (laptop, desktop, whatever). So, that if you communicating or want to communicate with another person in a different language that you don’t know then you can take the help of Google Translate.
  • It also translates whole web-pages by just copy and pasting their URLs into the type field.

What Google Translate App for iPhone has to offer:

  • Pretty much the same. Since, it was firstly for desktops and laptop (means computer), it was at its best. Smartphones can’t top them still.
  • Anyway, in this app, you have got the type field and an option to record your voice and then have it translated by Google’s translating engine (whatever it is).
  • You can also zoom the translated area, if you want to show someone more clearly. Works best with old people and people who loose their glasses pretty much every other second.

Google Translate official app for iPhoneOther than that, everything is same, you get more than 50 languages, search is quick, translation is quick. However, it is still no match for the desktop version.
However, it would be great to see how Google Translate acts in tablets and pads.

Official Blogger App for Android Phones Available

Official app for blogging on Blogger.com is now available at Android Market website. You could say that Google is finally catching up to WordPress because blogging via Android phones via wordpress app was always there.

In any case, I do not mean to criticize Blogger app just yet. However, I have read many the reviews of many users there and they do not seem to be quite happy.

Blogger android app

Blogger android app

  • Some say it needs a lot of work because old posts and drafts are inaccessible. It may be some error but it is there anyway.
  • Some say that it does not fetch their blogs.
  • Some say that it is very basic, in other words, no extra features and extended functionality available.
  • Requires Android 2.1 and later.

These reviews tell us that Blogger App does need a lot of work because among those many hateful comments, ‘cannot find blogs’ is the most occurred one. So, before you get excited too much over nothing, hit up the hyperlink and install the app on your android phone. Now it’s easier anyway with Android market web client.

Needless to say, it is a free app. So, you don’t lose anything, even if you don’t gain anything.

So, give it whirl and tell us if you have to say anything amazing in the comment section below.

Tango Free Mobile Video Calling for iPhone Facetime

If I tell you that Tango might replace iPhone’s Facetime, would you believe me?

Well, you better believe me. You might have watched the recent episode of The Big Bang Theory: The Thespian Catalyst and in that our beloved pervert Howard Wolowitz, makes a video call to his friends when he met a terrible accident.

You might want to watch the episode for the full and amazing scoop.

Anyway, if you give that video call a good look, you might catch a little ‘T’ at the very rightmost corner of iPhone (bottom). That little ‘T’ is a sure certification to the app being used at the time of that video call.

I can’t say if this was a promotional method or not, but I did feel the video quality a little off. However, you cannot rely on that episode only. You must try it and then figure out if it’s a true replacement for Facetime and Skype video calling.

Tango is available for both iPhone and Android smartphones. You might want to catch them right away: Tango for iPhone and Android.
