Motorola Xoom 4G LTE Upgrade in June 2011

Droid Life blog has reported an image regarding LTE upgrade for Xoom tablet. As the document informs, LTE 4G upgrade will take place approximately 90-days from the date of Xoom’s launch and that would be around June 2011.

The document reports several things to know and awareness points. Here’s a quick point to point discussion:

  • The upgrade will be free of cost.
  • Upgrading will be done for both hardware and software.
  • Consumers will have to ship the device back to Motorola for upgrade.
  • The upgrade process will take approximately 6 days (or more depending on the traffic of Xoom tablets reaching Motorola’s workshops).
  • Consumers should backup their personal data before shipping the tablet.
  • Consumers must delete any personal data from the tablet in order to ensure no data leak (this one is from my side).
  • Motorola will not be responsible for any data leak.
  • The upgrade will be available for 6 months. After that, Motorola may or may not charge for the upgrade.

As far as the information is considered, it doesn’t feel fake and unreliable. However, information can be cross checked by following Verizon Wireless link above.

Microsoft Working on Windows Phone 7 Update Problem

Microsoft assures that the update will be online as soon as the fix is ready (nothing to wonder about this). It was reported that Samsung handsets were having problem when installing Windows Phone 7’s very first update.

Samsung Windows Phone 7 update failed

The update was pulled off and issues are being fixed as soon as possible. To save their prestige and dependability of the update, Microsoft announced that one of the reasons for the failure was ‘low disk space’.

The update usually backups all the data and if you don’t have enough disk space in your system then the update will fail. Another possible reason they came up with was ‘poor internet connectivity’. This one is hard to believe because who on earth would update his Phone (an ultra-high-end at that) on a dial-up connection. I would never do that, that’s for sure.

In any case, after making such statements, Microsoft was able to save its (their) skin for launching a poorly coded update, which eventually failed to install.

Now, you would not get an update notification, however, even if you do, don’t install it just yet. The old one will be available with few other bug fixes pretty soon and the final update with ‘copy and paste’ feature will be able in few weeks after that.

Till then stay focused and keep yourself informed. Ciao.

Apple Renamed Intel’s Light Peak as Thunderbolt

Apple doesn’t want to stick with what Intel has to offer. I am not talking about the hardware, they are more than happy to have Intel as their chip manufacturer.
I am talking about the naming that they have offered for their new hardware, i.e. Light Peak. Folks at Apple are probably not comfortable enough to go with that name and they want it to sound like something much rugged and that’s why, they came up with Thunderbolt.
Thunder for light and Bolt for Peak (that’s not mutual in any case, just having fun). Anyway, the function will still be the same, i.e. super fast connectivity solution.

Samsung Galaxy Tab II Display Variants

Samsung Tab II will make an appearance in various display sizes this summer. Galaxy tab made a great impression with its 7-inch screen and now Samsung is planning to put it to a direct competition with Apple’s iPad 2, which (according to various sources) will not be small.
This is why possible display variants for Galaxy Tab II are 8.9-inch and 10.1-inch, where 10.1-inch has been official announced.
Other specifications might include the inevitable Honeycomb with Adobe Flash Player 10.2. We’ll have to wait for other details to arrive. Till then, enjoy surfing and searching.

Adobe Flash Player 10.2 for Motorola Xoom Next Week–HoneyCombers Rejoice

As you already know that Xoom will not be shipping with Adobe Flash Player 10 and according to them, it will be made available around ‘spring time’. So, you will only be able to enjoy some basic flash support that this device is coming with.

However, Adobe has also announced that Flash Player 10.2 will be made available for all the HoneyComb tablets and smartphones after they have arrived in the market for some mighty-fine playful time. That time could be anywhere between 1 week to a whole month.

Motorola Xoom

Motorola Xoom could be one of those first HoneyComb devices that might get the nurturing of Adobe Flash Player 10.2. So, watch out after Xoom’s release and enjoy Flash Player 10.2. Later friends.

Verizon Retouches Motorola Xoom’s Pricing – $600 for 2-year contract

Verizon has made some significant changes in Xoom’s contract. You can now pickup the gadget for only (not quite!) $600 with a 2 year contract with the company. You will get 1GB of data transfer for $20/month and that’s the catch right there.

Anyway, you might not be able to enjoy your Xoom with that much only, other plans include $35 for 3GB, $50 for 5GB and $80 for 10GB. That’s still too expensive.

Verizon might reconsider the plans after iPad 2 release, which is expected on 2nd of March 2011.

Samsung Producing 8 times better DRAM for Next-Next-Gen Smartphones and Tablets

Samsung is working (folks at Sam’s lab to be precise) round the clock to provide a ground breaking hardware solution for future smartphones and tablets, who might want to rely on Samsung for some specific parts. This time around, we are talking about DRAM specifically.

Samsung is developing a DRAM that is 8 times faster than the previous generation DRAM, which every second tablet or smartphone is using right now. Though they are faster in one way or other (from each other), in total, they lack what it takes to be the Gadget of 2013. Yeah! I am talking about something that you would not be seeing till 2013.

Samsung mobile dram

The project is huge and results are unimaginable. However, when you dig deep enough, you’ll find that Sam’s lab is cooking DRAM that works at 12.8 GB/sec, which is around 8 times faster than current DRAMs. Also, the latest RAM of 2013 will be 87% more power saving chip than this year’s.

So, what we are waiting for is a prototype or even some model, that uses that DRAM to demostrate the actual power of a DRAM working at 12.8 GB/sec. There is no wonder in assuming that by 2013, we might be able to see Quad-core in Smartphones and Tablets.

Dual-screen and Tri-screen smartphones and Tablets (like Kno) were getting some big crowd at CES 2011 and they are 100% real. We might be able to see them later this year. This is why, we can safely assume a Quad-screen Smartphone and Tablet, which can extend itself from a 4-inch gadget to a 16-inch beauty (or anything that can blow our mind the moment we take a peek).

With that in mind, immersion of Nvidia and AMD in this market would be impossible and pretty much ‘necessary’ and ‘essential’. Who knows, we might be running a 3D Mark benchmarking tool to find out who can run Crysis 2 best on tablets and smartphones.

Anyways, rumors and imaginations apart, Samsung is keeping the actual figures quite and will never leak anything so confidential, which can warn their sworn competitors.

For me, one of them is Apple (just an opinion fellas)!

Samsung Super AMOLED Plus Displays Enroute

It is true that many smartphones still have AMOLED displays with their ultra high-end configurations. It is costly to make Super-AMOLED displays in that large scale. However, Samsung probably doesn’t care about that or may be for some other reason, they have gone one step ahead of everyone to invent a completely new set of displays, i.e. Super-AMOLED Plus or may be SAMOLED+.

Now then, you already know that our basic displays come from RGB screens, even our most modern TV sets and laptops (monitors as well) have RGB screens. So, why did they not develop something so amazing for these big displays? Well… the answer is pretty simple… because it is very costly.

You see, even moving from LCD to LED television would cost us some pretty big bucks, how would you pay for an AMOLED display, say 40-inch?

In any case, we are going to discuss about “what Super- AMOLED Plus display is?”

SAMOLED+ display are above from typical configurations of AMOLED displays. AMOLED display take 2 RED, 2 BLUE and 4 GREEN sub-pixels/pixel basis. This is why, the image looks sharper, brighter and clearer than typical LCD screens. With SAMOLED+, the configuration is made like this: RED, GREEN, BLUE, RED GREEN BLUE.

Samsung Super Amoled Plus Display

Not only, the colours are now in even number, but also, none of them occurs more time than other. With this configuration, sub-pixels/pixel give the most amazing set of display colours and provide a near-perfect picture quality.

The existence of SAMOLED+ display is rumoured highly in Samsung Galaxy S II and Infuse 4G. They have pretty impressive display size as well. Due to the configuration of SAMOLED+ displays, the screen has to be bigger. That’s why, these two smartphones will have screen size from 4.3 to 4.8 – inches.

SAMOLED+ will be perfect for future tablets and pads. It must be noted that this type of screen will not come cheap and companies must have variants, so that consumers can choose according to their pocket.

Microsoft Kinect for Windows PC Confirmed

It was bound to happen sooner than later. Kinect is finally coming for PC and now, there will be no extra hacking to get Xbox 360 supporting Kinect work for windows system. However, we’ll still need some hackers to do some stuff for good old games, like Crysis, GTA, Call of Duty, etc., which may never be updated to support Kinect.

In any case, this solves the mystery: Will Kinect ever come for Windows? Well… it finally will… for sure!

Microsoft Kinect for Windows

Anyway, now we’ll see some games supporting Kinect completely or partially and now, ‘sitting on the couch’ wouldn’t the same as before. Now, we’ll get to shoot and run and move. So… it is a win-win situation, isn’t it?

Some games that I personally think must support Kinect are:

Crysis 2

GTA V

Rage

Modern Warfare 3

F.E.A.R. 3

Mass Effect 3

etc….

The list can go on and on, but these are the ones that I love most (even if none of them have been released yet). Anyway, enjoy Kinect for Windows.
