How to Enhance Your Drawing Ability in Animation with Wacom Intuos 4?

Here I am going to tell you a simple method and a device that has helped me greatly -

1. When you create a character, also known Organic modeling in 3ds Max 2010. You will need a reference picture.

2. The most difficult part is to deal with the topology lines across the face which you will create in Adobe Photoshop so that when you use the picture as reference in 3ds Max, you can easily draw it in 3-D using polygon method.

3. You can draw topology lines very easily with a pencil or pen, but it becomes a little tricky with the mouse. Because mouse lacks the fluid motion of a pencil or pen.

4. This simple trick used to work for me when I didn’t have the tablet.

a. I used to print the pictures after correcting the lens distortions in Adobe Photoshop Extended CS4 (CS4 supports openGL with supported Nvidia graphics cards).

b. Now since I was good at drawing by hand, I would draw necessary topology lines with a light color pen and then scan it to use as a final reference picture for my 3ds Max.

5. But if you want to be quick and save your precious time from scanning and using your picture then pen tablet is the best option.

6. You may already know many of them. But I use Wacom Intuos 4 pen tablet which is just incredible. Smallest tablet size is worth Rs.14,000/- or $280 and maximum size is worth Rs.40,000/- or $800 in India.

7. I used Youtube to get satisfying user reviews for the pen tablet. Because a gamble of $280 was not that easy for me a few months ago. I would like to mention a very great video in which the user was creating a sketch of a lady with the use of this pen tablet.

8. I accept that his drawing skills were great but I could also see that the pen of this device had a natural feel between fingers like the pencil and felt-tip pen that I normally use to draw.

9. This device has some great features too. Apart from natural feel of pen, it also comes with several pins which are positioned inside the pen holder. The tablet is for both left and right hand users. Menu options can be changed from computer once you setup the device. Hence, the tablet can be stationed as you like whether left or right.

10. I will also suggest you to get an extra pin or tip for the pen which is Felt-tip. Since the tablet can recognize 2400 pressure points, it becomes much easier and precise to draw with a felt-tip than a regular plastic pin or tip.

The purpose of writing this article was to tell you that even if you have mastered drawing with mouse, you must consider buying a pen tablet. It eases the stress in your hand which occurs after holding the mouse for too long. This article is obviously short and to some extent incomplete. But it is not a complete review of Wacom Intuos 4.
