Sony’s Reader Daily vs Amazon’s Kindle 2

Greetings dear readers, you would be pleased to know that Sony is going to get in direct competition with Amazon’s Kindle 2. It’s not like they haven’t been selling e-books reading devices. They have been, but in my opinion Reader Daily is by far most promising than any of them.
So, here is a small comparison between them, just in case you want to clear your thoughts about what you should buy, Amazon’s Kindle 2 or Sony’s Reader Daily:
1. Display: Sony’s Reader Daily features 7” display with touch-screen while Kindle 2 has only 6” display without touch capabilities, that’s also nice but you know 7” is like reading something from a book itself. Doesn’t feel like we are reading from a gadget, isn’t it?
2. Reading Capability: I’ll give same marks for both in this case. Both of them feature high resolution, digital ink pattern to provide ultra sharp images and clear text. However, Sony’s Reader has been developed out of new technology, hence, the text and images feel more alive than Kindle 2. There is just a small difference but it would matter for some people who are like, voracious readers.
3. Typing/Texting: This is totally up to you. Kindle 2 provides you simple and familiar keyboard layout with rounded keys (small and pretty), while Sony provides you virtual touch screen keyboard. If you don’t like to type on virtual keyboard or simply can’t familiarize yourself with it, then you might want to go with Kindle 2.
Touch-screen of Reader Daily is appreciably optimized to respond to your impressions and you will face no trouble with it.
4. Buying e-books: As you know, if you want to buy an e-book for Kindle 2 then you will have to buy it from Amazon because for some reason Amazon doesn’t allow us to download e-books from other online sources.
As for Sony’s Reader Daily, you can not only buy and download various e-books from SonyStyle.com, but also from other sources as long as they provide the facility.
5. Access to E-library: This is very interesting feature if you are in college or high-school or something, where you have to deal with e-library all the time. If you don’t want to juggle up with books and carry their weights then Sony’s Reader is perfect for you. It provides you access to e-libraries, which is not present in Kindle 2 (click here to know).
The best part is, it’s free!! You will save quite a good amount of money if you don’t have to purchase every single e-book that you come across (many people go for reading a lot for reference material).
6. Battery Life: Both devices feature great battery life and you can go on reading for days (just 2 weeks) with a fully charged battery. But I must show you the data, Kindle 2 delivers 2 weeks of battery life when 3G is ON and 4 weeks when it is OFF. The data is same for Sony’s Reader Daily.
7. Wireless Capability: Both devices have 3G and AT&T is working as operator in US which also works great in around 100 countries. So don’t worry about reading on-air. You’ll get flawless performance on both devices regarding wireless.
8. Mac/Windows Compatibility: Both devices are compatible with Mac and Windows. Data transfer speed is nice.
9. Dictionary Feature: Both devices have embedded dictionary. Finding meaning of any word is pretty easy. So some of these points look lame to even write about.
10. Other Features: All other common features are supported by both devices, like text-to-speech, picture viewer, pdf, word, etc.
So, there you have it. Sony’s Reader Daily does look promising than Amazon’s Kindle 2. So if I were you, I would definitely book my Reader Daily before I miss it.
Am I forgetting something? Price? Oh yeah! Amazon’s Kindle 2 is at $259 right now and Sony’s Reader Daily is at $399. I know that the price difference is big enough to think twice. But take your time, you’ll find that Sony does have an upper hand! Good Luck!

Sony Vaio Z – The Most Insane Ultraportable Yet

Original Article

Alright, when it comes to looks and style, Sony is the one that everyone looks up to. I’ve always wondered on how expensive they are and how low-configured at the same time.

But I guess it’s not the case every time. Although you can’t disagree my claim completely because obviously with that price tag (that Sony Vaio sticks with), you can get ‘the’ most powerful system out there.

But let’s talk about Sony Vaio Z this time.

Vaio Z is can be considered as the most insane machine from Sony yet. Why so? Have a look at these specs:

  1. Processor: Core i7 620M, of course, not the fastest processor for a notebook but still, the fastest processor for an Ultraportable.

As you probably know the insane performance and speed of core i7, it will take your business needs to a whole new level.

But please don’t tell me that you are going to buy this notebook for gaming purpose or something like that. It’s not made for those kinds of things.

  1. Hard Disk: A quad-SSD setup, yep, you read correctly. This notebook packs 4 SSDs and that’s what makes it extremely fast.
  2. Graphics by Nvidia: Geforce GT 330M, with Dynamic Hybrid Graphics system. As I said above that this notebook is not for gaming, but it is definitely built for some heavy graphical work. But I guess it will only be limited to Photo editing, video transcoding, etc. But please, no serious work friends, you got to treat this baby nice.

Anyways, GT 330m gpu may not be able to deliver ultra performance with respect to games or other heavy graphical work. But it can definitely deliver the graphical power needed to get along with Full-HD (it does have Full-HD res.).

  1. RAM – 6GB of DDR3 Ram and I can only assume that it has to be 1333MHz.
  2. Body: As usual, carbon fibres design for durability and rigidness.
  3. Resolution: One of highest resolution 13.3” displays that have ever been made. With Full-HD support, you will get an option for 1920×1080 resolution which is awesome and freaky at the same time.
  4. Weight: This cute demon weighs only 1.45Kg which is another plus point with respect to the things it has inside it.
  5. OS: It is a rumour which very likely to come true. Windows 7 might be the preloaded windows.
  6. Price Tag: NO rumours on this one, but when you check out the forums and other blogs, you’ll find people exaggerating the price tag, as low as $2000 and as high as $3500.

Don’t sweat on it. The notebook is still to be launched.

  1. Launch Date: As per Sony, this notebook will be available by the end of March 2010, but you can pre-book it at SonyStyle.com.

Let’s see if it’s the best ultraportable to come out in 2010.
