Wi-Fi Calling App to be Shipped with Future Android Smartphones (May be other Gadgets too)

[ad#728x90-banner-wide]
New LG’s Optimus One is going to get many other goodies from T-mobiles besides an Android 2.2. It is known as a Wi-Fi Calling app and will sure be able to turn many things around. We saw Wi-Fi video conferencing with Apple iPhone 4′s Face Time and now we are going to see some audio calls with Wi-Fi Calling app from T-Mobile. However, it would only be able for future Android devices and let’s not forget that Froyo, Ginger Bread and Honeycomb are the most awaited upgrade versions of Android. I must say that rather than being just mobile operating system upgrades, they will become something else with a whole new interface with our future mobiles. Look at the picture below to get what I want to say here:

Also, when it comes to ease, there is always something that is not that ‘easy’, isn’t that right? Apparently, Wi-Fi Callling app comes with some limitations and few are pretty quick to be guessed. One of them is, you can’t call when you don’t have a wi-fi network around (pretty easy, huh?) and another one is, as soon as you move out of your Wi-Fi radius, circle, points, etc. your call will be dropped without showing you any mercy (pretty easy again, ain’t it?).

So, at this point, you might be wondering as to how this app will change our expereicne to a better one. Well… look at it this way… soon, you will find other app developers competing for the same feature. Some might tell you your call quality depending on your Wi-Fi strength and some might even show you an area where you ought to be if you don’t want to drop your call and of course, some other apps focussed on this basic featuer by T-mobile, i.e. Calls over Wi-Fi.

As soon as I hear more of this, I’ll let you know. After all, you must also have several gates to achive one information, must you not?!

Canon’s X Mark I Mouse Specifications – Features a Calculator Too

[ad#728x90-banner-wide]
Canon is now presenting you a very amazing gadget, in the name of X Mark I, which packs the capabilities of a laser mouse as well as a calculator. The build is not so comfortable to hold because the device is very large (with respect to our daily mouse) and has sharp edges. However, it can be easily said that the device was not made keeping ergonomics in mind. It is really cheap, only $63 inclusive of all taxes and that’s more than reasonable considering the dual functioning of Canon’s X Mark I. Have a look at the picture and you’ll understand what I mean.

Canon X Mark I Mouse and Calculator

It’s doesn’t look too bad either, does it? It is available in white colour as well. For other details, look at the specifications listed below:

  • 10-digit Calculator
  • Wireless 3 button laser mouse (1200 dpi) or numeric keypad
  • Integrated Bluetooth 2.0 connectivity
  • Partly made from Canon copier recycled material (that solves the mystery of low-price)
  • Low Battery indicator and Auto-power off
  • Compatible with Windows and Macintosh

So, it cannot be said that it’s a perfect replacement for your calculator and a mouse, but it is really a very nice choice to include if you tend to use calculator a lot. Having a dual functioning mouse and calculator would be very great.

Also, looking at the specifications, the mouse capabilities might not match with your current mouse and with the inclusion of Bluetooth 2.1 (3.0 in near future) in current devices, this device might look a bit from old age. So, it would be totally your call when you buy it. Please leave your views and suggestions in the comment area below.

Apple Patented Capacitive Touch Shall Redefine Multi – Touch Devices – Handhelds in Particular

[ad#728x90-banner-wide]
It is now time for Apple to come up with something new and grand. This patented technology (pictured below) from Apple looks exactly like it. According to Apple, or so it appears, it will change the way today’s handhelds and multi-touch devices work. The idea behind it is to create touch zones without the respect of your device, i.e. mobiles, pads, tablets, etc., but with the respect of your fingers. It would create a great deal of relief for people who are left-handed because in particular, today’s devices are still made for right-handed users because market runs on majority. However, with this patented technology, things would be different, because now it wouldn’t matter whether you are left handed or right – handed. The devices will automatically adjust themselves according to the way you are holding it (means the settings and touch zones). Look at the picture bellow to see it yourself:

Apple Patented Capacitive Touch

Apple Patented Capacitive Touch

It turns out that theoretically, the technology is very promising and shows a great deal of simplicity regarding our future devices. However, it still depends on the time when it finally arrives in the market or better to say, in our hands.
Though, it is patented by Apple but it is not an entirely new idea that is only limited to the imagination of developers in Apple. It might take a bit more time but other major companies in touch field will also try to redefine Multi-touch and launch their own patented technologies. It might happen that at the core all of them could resemble with each other. We can’t tell right now, but it is possible, we’ll just have to wait.

Mozilla Seabird Concept Phone – Too Dreamy to Dream

It was not that easy to digest such a concept phone from Mozilla, as they call it, ‘Mozilla Seabird’. But it looks like developers at Mozilla have the nerve to dream something so unrealistic (however, possible), yet amazing, that you want to see it again and again. The video (embedded below) is showing off a concept of technology that’s beyond imagination, but it does have wings to fly to great heights. It shows two Pico projectors to enhance your mobile display with a virtual display that’s as big as a 26” TV (if they can dream that big, then they might dream to add an option to make that virtual display even larger), detachable Bluetooth dongle with haptic click-ability, navigation with that dongle is possible and it also acts as an IR receiver, not to mention as a one sided earpiece.

Those Pico projectors that I talked about are also able to create virtual keyboard and that makes carrying a Bluetooth keyboard (that we think are so handy) seems like gadgets from Stone Age, like two world class stones getting smashed just to create fire. So, I will not ruin your hopes by telling you everything what is packed in this video from Mozilla. Do watch it and tell me what you think about it.

Best DTH Service in India – Airtel Digital TV or Tata Sky?

[ad#728x90-banner-wide]
If you are a fan of television and I am sure you are (otherwise you would not be reading this article), then you might want to get rid of your local disc connection, that doesn’t work when you need it most. I am talking about weather problems in particular, whenever you want to get updates on current weather and it’s not good (you know that already but you want to know when it will be) and you switch on your T.V. and that familiar hazy screen glares back in your eyes and makes you to furiously press that red button to turn off the TV. Once again, you start to wonder that why did you not get a DTH connection?!

However, now we are moving to a new road of entertainment where we would not have to wait for any weather to clear up or other things that used to bug you too much. At this point, when there are several DTH Networks growing in India, you might be wondering as to which one is best and what you should take. I am still not quite sure as to which DTH service is great because I saw Tata Sky running on Bravia 26” and I wasn’t that impressed to get it right away. Anyway, I can assure you that there are definitely two services that are far better than others and you will not have any problems if you get one of them. The only chore that rests on your side is to decide according to your wallet, which one is fine for you.

These are the major players in providing DTH services in India:

  1. Tatasky
  2. Airtel Digital TV
  3. Reliance Big TV
  4. Dish TV
  5. DD Direct +
  6. Sun Direct

I have not arranged them in the order of their greatness; however, I did take care to list least favorite DTH operators in the end.

Tata Sky and Airtel Digital TV are at the top of our list and it is hard to decide which one is good. Both DTH operators are top notch and provide HD box option at a higher price. You can visit home sites for each DTH operator to get the information on their respective plans.

Personally, I’ve seen Tata Sky’s HD box perform as great as Airtel Digital TV’s. If you have a great Full-HD T.V., then you can have a wonderful high-definition experience if the channel provides it. Like watching Discovery HD on a 42” Sony Bravia looks amazing then on a 21” CRT.

I would not recommend the last two DTH Operators as they have the worst reviews possible for a DTH Operator. Top 3 operators have received significantly positive reviews than others. So, if you want to buy a DTH connection any time soon, then you should go for any of those top 3 operators mentioned above. However, you should look for offers and discounts when you actually make up your mind to get one. It’s easy to get confused when you have top companies rolling in for the same service.

I would like to tell you that if you are worried above customer care services then you should go for Airtel Digital TV as Airtel is famous for providing state-of-the-art customer care service and your problems (should they occur) will be solved within 24 hrs (that’s my experience with Airtel).

Samsung Galaxy Tab Price Leaked – $999?!

It’s a not a bluff when you read this information about the price on the head of Galaxy Tab on the web or have you not? It is one of the ‘most wanted’ gadget, so beware? I wonder why? Never mind… but it looks like we would have to pay a lot more than we might have imagined. To tell you the truth… I never imagined the price of Galaxy Tab being so high. But now I got some news from Smarthouse that Galaxy Tab will really be a hefty one, however, I still can’t believe… $999!… are you kidding me?!

Samsung Galaxy Tab Price Leaked

Samsung Galaxy Tab Price Leaked

It’s just about $200 higher than iPad and I must say, iPad is doing a wonderful job in keeping its users happy and entertained. Also, since we are about to have our hands on RIM’s Blackpad and a possible release of iPad 2 is on the way too, the price tag just doesn’t justifies itself. What is it packing anyways?! A quad core or something?… dual displays just waiting to be flipped open?… ridiculously brilliant screen?…. Hyper-threading?… what? I mean seriously, look out Samsung, its way too pricey than its specifications.

Sooner or later (make it later) this thing is going to be released in India (yeah! Nearly every gadget is making its way to India) and what are we going to pay, hm? Rs.50,000/- for a Galaxy Tab by Samsung? Doesn’t look to catchy to me. I will stick with my Kindle and others will stay with their Kindles and iPad. Who wants a Tab that does exactly the same as iPad and gets a price as high as Rs.10,000/- more compared to the later one.

Oh! And did I tell you that a Samsung VP was really happy with that price and thought that it’s perfect for their gadget…now, is it? Now, I am not much of a betting person but I got to bet on this one, ‘They sure will decrease their prices or somebody’s going to get hurt… I mean the ‘heart’ fellas’. Because if they will not decrease their prices then we will roam around with a broken heart if that thing (Samsung Galaxy Tab) turns out to be a really cool deal and if they do decrease their prices then the person who showed his boss some very mighty dreams is sure going to hurt and I mean it, ‘hurt’!

Also, the price is in AUD, that’s Australian Dollars. So, what does it mean for the rest of us? Let’s see, according to Xe.com and based on current money conversion rates: AUD $999 = USD $955.342 = INR Rs.43,594.67. Now do you get it? It is still one of most expensive gadget with respect to its specifications. Who knows what else is going to come that might surprise us even more? Later then friends. Ciao.

Amazon Kindle Graphite – 6-inch – latest – Is it better than before?

[ad#728x90-banner-wide]
A graphite finish like its predecessor, Kindle Dx, and a smaller screen! Well, is there any other thing that’s capable of generating massive amount of sales… again?! I was working on this, which one is better, thing for past few days and couldn’t decide what to say! So, I am just putting out my views to let you decide which one is better and which isn’t? However, you should read my review on Kindle DX to learn more about it, if you don’t know about it already. So, here goes my review:

Amazon Kindle Graphite

Amazon Kindle Graphite

  • It has 6-inch display size with the same resolution as before. So, the reading experience would be amazing once again.
  • It is lighter than before. Even lighter than the most lightweight eBook Reader out there.
  • Better refresh rate than before.
  • Pages look crispier than before.
  • Number line has been completely removed to make the device look simpler and cleaner and we have to press ‘Sym’ (symbol) button to access numbers and special characters.
  • Power Slider and 3.5 mm audio port has been moved to the bottom and is more convenient than before.
  • (To above) It also adds sense to the new position because now our headphone, earphone or whatever you might call it, will not hang on the top of our device. It looks more natural now.
  • Improved contrast from E-Ink has become an exciting experience on Kindle and text and images look great and amazing in comparison to Kindle Dx.
  • Improved PDF native support, but unfortunately no EPub file support. So, you have to transfer your eBooks in PDF format from your other Ereaders if you want to read them on Kindle.
  • Slow 3G speed in comparison to Wi-Fi – That’s not what we were looking for, however, this 3G feature is still in its childhood sort-of stage and will be improved in future versions of Kindle.
  • Separate connectivity versions are a relief for people who don’t have 3G network around them. A 3G Kindle would cost $189 (with Wi-Fi of course) and a Wi-Fi only version would cost $139. It makes only $50 difference between these two Kindles and personally, I would go for the Wi-Fi only version.
  • 3G is not yet supported in India by all network operators, like Airtel, Vodafone, etc. However, they will roll out their services soon enough, but I will do just fine with the Wi-Fi only version.
  • Build is superb and the rubberized back is amazing to hold and feels great. As said above, it is lighter than before and the display is comfortably small (yet fine to read from), so reading from it while taking a walk would not do any injustice with your hands! It’s lighter, remember?
  • You can also use some gears to hold Kindle, if you don’t want to hold that superbly light gadget with your hands.

My verdict? Kindle Dx is still a great eBook Reader for me. That said, if one gives me a choice to choose from these two, I would definitely go for the latest one and particularly, one with the Wi-Fi Only option. But, let me warn you! It is just a personal choice. If you have a great 3G service at affordable price than you should go for the Wi-Fi/3G version. Trust me, you won’t regret it!

Nvidia Kepler Graphics Card – To be released in 2011 – Better than Fermi

Nvidia Kepler Chip

Nvidia Kepler Chip Releasing In 2011

It’s also a matter to be discussed in detail but unfortunately I could not gather enough information to create a 1000 word post. However, I have a little talk about Nvidia’s latest work on their best of the best graphics card, code named Kepler and it might be released in 2011.

This chip will be based on 28 nm architechture (if not, then ATI might come out as a winner with their first 28nm chip) and is meant to be 3 to 4 times better in terms of performance and stability. Also, this means that this chip would be cooler compared to its performance.

I do have one rumour for you though, in 2013, Nvidia might release a new chip codenamed Maxwell. However, you can’t rely on that rumour as its still quite early, 3 years early!

What this would mean to us?

  • Better temperature management
  • More memory in a single card for lower price, like 2 GB graphical memory without sacrificing the temperature.
  • New version of Direct X support.
  • New version of OpenCL, CUDA and possibly support for quad HD videos.
  • Much realistic games and faster computation of researches including graphical power.

This means that soon, we’ll learn about a whole new chip from Nvidia. Let’s keep our fingers crossed and hope for a great graphics card.

How to edit Send To Option in Windows 7 (or any version)?

[ad#728x90-banner-wide]
Let’s see how to quickly change Send To option in Windows 7 or any version of Windows OS.
With default Sendto menu, you get these options:

Default Send To Options Windows 7

Default Send To Options Windows 7

Even if your options are different from mine (I am sure they are), you have to follow the same steps to edit Send To option and create your own Send To folders that you use frequently.

Hit Windows key or Start and type in the search box, “shell:sendto” (without quotes) and hit enter. You’ll see a folder where all of your Send To options are accumulated. Now all you have to do is delete those that are just increasing ‘Send To’ program list and paste those folders’s shortcuts that you use frequently.

Send To Options Changed

Send To Options Changed

You can also use this trick to quickly add programs that you use most to edit your files. For example: If you edit pictures a lot, you can go to your preferred program and copy the ‘.exe’ file and paste the shortcut in this ‘Send To’ folder.

Now you can right click your pictures and send them to ‘Photoshop’ or any other preferred program to edit. Remember to add only compatible programs.

I am well aware that we have ‘Open With’ menu to open our files with compatible programs. But the list of compatible programs for a file format is too long than you’ll find yourself scrolling for that program. That’s why, this Send To ‘Program’ thing will help you with the programs you use most.

Locate this folder directly by pasting this link in your Windows Explorer bar: C:\Users\{YourUsername}\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\SendTo.

Both of them do the same thing, but it comes in handy when “shell:sendto” isn’t working for some reason.

Have a look at how my options changed when I added ‘Paint.exe’ shortcut in “Send To” folder.

Send To Option Changed : Paint Added

Send To Option Changed : Paint Added

I am writing ‘paste shortcut’ again and again inspite of ‘pasting’ whole ‘.exe’ file because that will save you a significant amount of disk space. A shortcut typically acquires only 1Kb of disk space while your whole ‘.exe’ will be definitely larger than that and as a matter of fact, both methods work just fine.

Word of Advice: If you are working on other Windows OS than 7, then try locating this “Send to” folder directly by going through above address. If you can’t paste the address in address bar of Windows Explorer. Then you need to ‘Show Hidden Folders’ in Tools>Options menu.

I hope this trick helped you a bit.
